The World of Therra
Religion

The Religions of Therra -
Detailed writeups of the selected religions of Therra, including details of the cults and sects within each religion. Valuable information for any clerics of Therra.

Deities with detailed write-ups are:

  • Aghorrit - God of War
  • Firlott - God of Hunting
  • Indolle - God of Trade
  • Meredros - God of Honour

Below are the gods of Therra, their basic descriptions, and their domains. Preceding that is a listing of all the domains and their sources. Note, some domains I have left off of this list because they apply to monsters only (i.e. there is a Drow Domain). The Deceiver's domains are given here but there is no listing, as players would not know much of the new worship of that god. Also, with the removal of the Deceiver from the face of Therra, many of the religions of the other gods have shifted or added aspects to their religion that are not entirely good. This is a reflection of the concept that nature abhors a vacuum, and in light of the Deceiver's absence, some of the religions have expanded into concepts and portfolios once controlled by him alone.

Also, please note the addendum at the end of the gods listing.

High Level Clerics:

At 8th level, a cleric may add a third domain of his choice from his god's domains. This represents his inculcation into more aspects of the religion. At 12th level, a cleric may add a fourth domain. At 16th level, a cleric may add a fifth domain. At 20th level, a cleric may add a sixth domain (if applicable)

The Tuls:

The Morakki primarily worship the Tuls, the four gods of the elements believed to be four parts of a whole being that splintered in the creation of the world. Because each of the tuls are a part of a whole being, they do not get 6 domains like the other gods. It is rumoured amongst Morakki savants that full integration into the mysteries of the Tuls allows an adherent to gain a sixth domain, but others claim this is merely Madness.

THE GODS OF THERRA:

Religion Format:

Each Therran religion will be given in the following formats. Please keep in mind that these are merely thumbnail sketches, and they do not purport to go into the details and intricacies of the rather complex state of Therran religions. Information here is given from a Western Therran standpoint (including Onlor), and the Morakki in the East certainly worship the same gods differently.

The standard format will be as follows:

Name:

The god's or goddess' name(s) and/or title(s)

Sphere:

Those things attributed to or for which the god is worshipped

Predominant Areas:

Those areas where the god is most worshipped, although this does not imply that the god is the dominant religion in that area nor that the god is not worshipped rarely in other places.

Races:

Those races which worship the god. Other races will worship this deity so rarely that they cannot be priests of the god. This section defines which races may be priests of the god. This section is limited to those races known as demi-human races. Other humanoid and monstrous worshippers may be possible. In addition, where humans are indicated, some half-orc and half-elven worshippers will be found. Similarly, when elves are indicated as worshippers, a small percentage of half-elven worshippers may also be found. Thos listings that specifically list half elves are those where worship is specifically tied to half elves.

Description:

How the god is pictured in artwork and/or statuary and/or in scriptures. This can vary from culture to culture or race to race.

Background:

General myths or history associated with the deity

Alignment:

The general alignment associated with the deity. Priests cannot be more than 1 step removed in alignment with regard to good and evil and should strive to remain ethically similar (i.e. Law, Chaos)

Favoured Weapon:

The deitiy's favoured weapon, for use when determining weapon proficiencies and the effects of some cleric spells.

Priestly Duties:

Duties the priesthood is expected to perform

Other Limitations:

A catchall for other items

Domains:

Describes the domains available to the religion. In a sense, each domain can be thought of as a separate sub-cult of the religion, and often such factions are rivals or even openly opposed to one another. Some domains are available but generally discouraged except during times of extremis. For example, the religion of Mustiglior, the Goddess of Love includes the Hatred Domain. However, this domain is generally reserved for those spurned and heartbroken by hearthless loved ones or those who suppress or murder true love.

Holy Symbol(s):

Those items consecratable as holy symbols
