Name:

COTRUNAL, The Wise One, The Fount of Ideas, Provider of Inspiration

Sphere:

Knowledge, Reason

Predominant Areas:

All of Jerranq.

Races:

All. Primarily humans and some dwarves.

Description:

This deity is depicted as an elderly man with no mouth. He holds a tome in his left hand and a quill pen in his right hand.

Background:

It is believed that Cotrunul was tempted just before he entered into the Hall of Slumber. This would mean he was also likely, as heretofore favoured of the Deceiver, to have been the last god to enter slumber before the Deceiver was supposed to.

Cotrunul was a scion of the Deceiver when he was known as the Clever One. When the Deceiver turned away from harmony, he tried to tempt Cotrunul into following him. Fortunately for mortal-kind, this powerful god refused to be swayed. However, the Deceiver struck the god mute before he could warn the other gods, and so Cotrunul was unable to save the world.

Alignment:

Any. Usually Lawful and Neutral.

Favoured Weapon:

Staff.

Priestly Duties:

Priests are expected to maintain extensive libraries cataloguing knowledge. They are responsible for disseminating this knowledge amongst the flock, but may be compensated for doing so. Other priests are charged with seeking out new knowledge.

Other Limitations:

Priests must always seek to preserve knowledge. They will never destroy any tome or map or unknown item.

Priests must also remain silent one day per week. This is in regard for their god's mute condition. This does preclude the casting of spells with verbal components unless an appropriate feat is taken allowing silent casting or if the Vocalize spell is used. Luckily, each priest may choose his own day of the week, so the priesthood is never without 6/7ths of its spellcasters.

Domains:

Knowledge, Divination, Mentalism, Mind, Memory, Rune.

Holy Symbol(s):

A book.
