Kirawyr is a 25 year old human with a grotesquely deformed face
and a raspy voice. No one is sure how Kirawyr came to look this
way, though rumours persist that he or his family were cursed
by some divine being. What is certain is that Kirawyr left his
homeland in Jaggarth where his family had returned after the War
of the Gem to resettle. As a lad he had been tormented mercilessly
by his kinsmen and neighbours due to his looks, and he developed
a toughness of character and muscles as a result of fending off
these diatribes and physical attacks. Eventually, he began to
hire himself out as a mercenary, sometimes even claiming to be
a half-orc to explain away his appearance.
While guarding a Riverine caravan, Kirawyr proved his prowess to the caravan master Bet'horet by defeating three men in an unarmed fight who had been poking fun at the warrior. In addition, the warrior used his prodigious strength to free a wagon from a rockslide. Both of these events caused Bet'horet to recommend Kirawyr to Barnabus' service in Dwillingir. The warrior was accepted and, out here on the frontier where a man is judged more by his conduct than his appearance, he began to find a home. He made fast friend with Bodhi Hantun, a rakish mercenary in House employ, and the two caroused legendarily in Dwillingir, until Bodhi was slain in the Gladitorial arena.
Kirawyr was instrumental in defeating the doppelganger who had infiltrated House Riverine and helped to restorre Barnabus to power. Later, he and his companions raided the Tomb of Prince Hammon and Kirwayr claimed Hammon's axe, armour, and shield for his own. However, in the battle against the demonic Effishnir, Kirwayr was slain, and this caused him to decide to retire to Nirzumbil. The warrior had always admired the dwarves, for they tended to judge their own and others by their deeds and character rather than their appearance. Furthermore, they enjoyed many of the things he enjoyed, such as a good brawl, bawdy humour, and hard work. When Kirawyr found and wore a magic belt that made him physically and mentally more dwarf-like, his course was sealed and, using his death and resurrectio as a milestone, he left the service of House Riverine and now dwells with the dwarves as their honoured guest.
